Walker Gentz: Baseball Pitching
After graduating from North Scott High School in Eldridge, IA, Walker took his many talents to the University of Iowa where he was a Student Manager (2016-2019) on the Hawkeye baseball team specializing in their live-feedback data systems including Trackman, Rapsodo, BATS, etc. Walker interpreted these systems’ data and presented the Iowa coaching staff with a comprehensive variety of reports to spur player development. Walker completed his bachelor’s degree in computer science from St. Ambrose University in 2021 with an emphasis on baseball-specific studies through the “Driveline Plus” program. After college and after a brief data operations internship at 6-4-3 Charts, Walker broke into the professional ranks in 2022 with the Chicago Cubs where he earned a more hands-on role as the Player Development Coach for the Cubs AA affiliate, the Knoxville Smokies, where he again provided and utilized comprehensive reports including scouting reports to spur player development. In the 2023 season, Walker successfully handled Pitching Coach duties for the Clinton LumberKings of the Prospect League. The LumberKings’ pitching staff accumulated near league-leading stats across the board for the 2023 season under Walker’s tutelage and were first-half champions of the league and earned a postseason berth.
